Ashgabat will host the Regional Water Conference

On December 17-18, the Regional Conference on Water Issues will be held in Ashgabat. The forum will bring together experts on water use, environmental protection and climate change in Central Asia. The meeting agenda includes the creation of a Task Force for the development of water and energy cooperation in Central Asia, coordinated by the UN, and mechanisms of joint work of the region’s states in the water sector. Areas requiring the expansion of the contractual-legal framework, the promotion of advanced water-saving technologies will be discussed. On December 18, multilateral consultations will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on the development of a UN Special Programme for the Aral Sea region countries. They will be held in virtue of the final communiqué of the IFAS founders’ summit that took place in Turkmenistan last August, and the UN Resolution on Cooperation between the Organization and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
