Iran intends to set regional export of catalysts for petroleum refining industries

Iranian petrochemical engineering company has developed the innovative technology for of making special catalysts used for local gasoline production and regional export, reports Iranian news agencies. According to Jaleel Sobhani, CEO of ‘Supplying Petrochemical Industries Part Equipment and Chemical Engineering’ company (SPEC), these special catalysts is used in the isomerization process both in the oil refineries that make commercial gasoline and in petrochemical plants. With this know-how Iran claims to rank second country in the world, after the US, that produces such high-tech catalysts, which have been already used at domestic refineries. Export of the new catalyst has been considered now, said Sobhani, adding that Iran will be able to meet the regional demand for catalysts. The estimated annual revenue from the export of the advanced component can reach $60 billion, while US $1 billion can be saved on account of import substation. Moreover, the building up of own catalyst production capacities allows to create steady refinery production chains independent from external markets. Iran's daily production of Euro 4 and Euro-5-standard gasoline using domestically-made catalysts stands at 96 million liters, said official. Catalysts are major components of gasoline isomerization process during which low-octane oil fractions are turned into high-octane commercial gasoline.
