The delegation of Turkmenistan takes part in the regular, 14th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, which takes place in the Colombian capital - Bogota. Along with applications from other participating countries, the Committee will consider a proposal by Turkmenistan to include carpet weaving traditions on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Heritage. The video, prepared for delegates, presents the history of Turkmen carpet weaving, all stages of the carpet manufacturing process, traditions associated with them. In preparing the nomination dossier, specialists from the Intangible Cultural Heritage Department traveled to all regions of the country, meeting with hereditary carpet weavers and craftsmen involved in this art, including those who make looms and other tools. Turkmen carpet weaving has not lost its relevance in our days. Without carpets, it is difficult to imagine a Turkmen house, a Turkmen holiday. The 41 applications proposed by other countries include the national chant of Falak (Tajikistan), Khorezm Lazgi dance (Uzbekistan), Armenian writing and its reflection in culture (Armenia), mountaineering - France, Italy and Switzerland, traditional Thai massage Nuad Thai (Thailand), music and dance of the Dominican bachata (Dominican Republic) and others. The committee will also have to decide on six requests for inclusion in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Protection. Three projects are proposed for inclusion in the Register of Good Practices for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
