Russian Oil and Gas Majors keen on working in Turkmenistan
Russian energy majors are interested in working in Turkmenistan; the large-scale joint projects are of special attention, Aleksandr Sternik, Director of Russian Federation Foreign Ministry’s Third Department of CIS Countries, said in an interview with RIA Novosti. “The biggest energy companies in Russia have show great interest in working in Turkmenistan. Our economic operators have something to offer in this area. The dialogue is underway on the wide range of issues related to the cooperation in energy field. First of all, the parties consider the implementation of large joint projects,” Sternik said. Earlier, Sergey Prikhodko, the Russian government’s deputy chief of staff, said the interest in developing oil and gas fields in Turkmenistan was shown by Rosneft, Lukoil, and Gazprom. Cooperation in the gas field is one of the important issues of bilateral cooperation between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan. In early July, it became known that Gazprom and Turkmengaz had signed a five-year contract on purchase of up to 5.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year. In April, the company announced that it had resumed natural gas purchases from Turkmenistan after 3-year break.
