Belarusian Brest passed the baton of the cultural capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States to Kazakhstan's Shymkent. On December 9, on the stage of the Brest Academic Drama Theater, a ceremony of transfer of honorary status and a festive concert were held, where leading soloists of the CIS countries performed. Turkmenistan was presented by the conductor of the State Symphony Orchestra Rasul Klychev and several other musicians as part of the CIS Youth Orchestra. “This is my first performance in Brest,” says Rasul Klychev. - The project is grandiose, because it unites musicians and peoples. It is important for us to exchange professional experience and share the culture of our country. The work of the Turkmen composer Nury Halmamedov, “Sounds of the Dutar”, performed in the concert program, was received by the foreign audience with a bang. The project “Cultural Capitals of the Commonwealth”, launched in 2010, is a bridge to the future, designed to reveal the cultural heritage of cities with a long history. So, in 2012, the Turkmen city of Mary performed the mission of the cultural capital, where along with cultural events, the scientific conference “Ancient Merv - the center of world civilization” was held. And in 2016, the right to be called the cultural capital of the Commonwealth countries was awarded to Dashoguz, founded about 400 years ago, on the edge of the Karakum desert, where the Great Silk Road once ran. In 2020, the city of Shymkent in Kazakhstan will turn 2200 years old. “It is a big responsibility for the city,” said Nurtai Kairat, First Deputy Akim of Shymkent, at the ceremony of passing the relay “Brest is the cultural capital of the Commonwealth”. - Residents of Shymkent with positive emotions were waiting for the moment of passing the baton. For the countries participating in the Commonwealth, this is a good opportunity to exchange knowledge about the history of culture.
