“White gold” harvest campaign to start on September 5 in Turkmenistan


In Turkmenistan, cotton harvest campaign will start in Ahal, Lebap and Mary Velayat on September 5. Due to climate conditions, “white gold” harvest campaign to start 11 days later in Dashoguz Velayat – on September 16.
As a tradition, the cotton harvest campaign will be started with blessings of the honorary elders who will collect first symbolic cotton harvest.
The Turkmen textile industry is second high-profitable branch of the country’s economy, after oil and gas industry. In the context of the ongoing global economic crisis and the fall in energy prices, the textile industry plays the role of a “safety cushion” for the Turkmen economy and helps to minimize the negative impact of the crisis. Almost all cotton processing and textile products are on demand at the foreign market.
In January-July 2018, the Ministry of Textile Industry of Turkmenistan produced products for 27 percent more than in the same period in 2017. The increase in the production of cotton yarn is amounted more than 16 percent, cotton fabrics, including terry – 18 percent, sewing and knitted goods – 34.7 percent.
As to the Ministry of Textile Industry, the increase in sales of textile products assured the increase of retail turnover at the level of 89.5 percent. In this period, export of textile products exceeded last year's figures by 11 percent, in value terms the figure is about 15 percent.
It is expected that this year, in Turkmenistan, more than 1 million tons of “white gold" to be harvested.
