Many Turkmen people are funs of Indian cinema and art, so spectators who came for performance of Bollywood Rockers, a band from India, packed a concert hall in Ashgabat to the capacity. Indian artists gave a half hour performance in one breath. The show was started with lighting of traditional candles, in which the Indian Ambassador in Turkmenistan took part. Then the light turned off, and unexpectedly the spectators heard the well-known song of Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull, to music of which the dancers performed an almost acrobatic composition. The eccentric beginning was followed by another impressive session. Even a small technical hesitation pause, charmingly “smoothened” by the head of the group, who wished a joyful time to everybody, the audience welcomed just as a next performance. Dances to songs from favorite Indian movies were the most expected part of the program. After all, what a “Bollywood” without dances? Their fabulous romance and spicy oriental passion were replaced by disco rhythms and by dancers in the streaming saris who gained the audience by emotional plasticity of classical national dance. Boy dancers with hats and walking sticks reminded the image of Raj Kapoor, the greatest showman of Hindi cinema, from the legendary Bollywood film “Vagabond”. Then, the girl dancers in black dresses with black umbrellas joined them, and the story was continued... The program was followed with songs from Bollywood musical film “Disco Dancer” performed by Anjuman, the band’s soloist. It became an apogee. In the concert hall, the light show was in the literal and figurative senses of the word. A short dance and song session involved spectators as well. The audience applauded to the echo. Bollywood Rockers Band performed in many countries and visited different continents. Ashish Mathur, an Indian choreographer, who united a hundred dancers, created it in 2004. The group comprising of 14 members, including two singers, came to Ashgabat. As Ashish said in an interview with ORIENT, he dances from the age of 15, when Michael Jackson' dance style impressed him. Although parents were against this kind of occupation as the main source of life, his love for music and rhythm prevailed over. “The culture of India and Turkmenistan is different and at the same time internally they are close, there is an attraction between them, so we understand each other easily,” Ashish Mathur says. And he added: “When I saw Ashgabat first time, it was just Wow! Incredibly beautiful city, very clean, sunny. I would say – royal! Next performance by the Bollywood Rockers Band will be at Watan Cinema Theater on August 31.
