Young Turkmen citizens study at many Russian universities. And they, of course, became participants of the World Festival of Youth and Students, which opened yesterday in Sochi. The flag of Turkmenistan, as well as flags of one hundred and eighty other countries, whose delegates came to the festival from all over the world, waves proudly in the area of the Olympic Park. I have been able to find my countrymen here. It was not only the flag that helped me, but also exclusive cards with ornaments, known as “oriental cucumbers”. Not only Turkmen shawls are decorated with this pattern, but also the world-famous cotton chintzes of Ivanovo city, where I live now.Leonid KIYASHKO, journalist, Ivanovo, Russian Federation
I brought these souvenirs of the textile region for the guests of the festival. And the first to receive them were students of Maikop State Technological University Guzel Nuryeva and Sheker Berdieva. The girls who came to study from Mary are incredibly happy to be at the festival in Sochi.
They often and willingly tell about their native Turkmenistan: about how they celebrate weddings, about folk dances, national dishes and so on. By the way, pilaf is in the menu, which prepares food for all participants of the festival.
The girls are also told about the traditions of their country on holidays in Maykop, dedicated to the Independence Day of Turkmenistan and the Day of Neutrality. Not only students help in this but also the entire local Turkmen Diaspora. Kurban Bayramy Holiday was widely celebrated this year with its help.
Receiving cards for the memory of our meeting with patterns of Ivanovo cotton chintz, the girls promise to draw in Maikop their own cards with carpet gels. And their friend Sheker Saparova will send a postcard directly from Mary, where she came to the festival in Sochi.
Another Turkmen countrywoman Angelina Danielyan, who studies at a similar university in the Kuban, tells foreigners about the architecture of the white marble Ashgabat. At the festival in Sochi, by the way, she is not a guest, but a volunteer, which is much more responsible. After the Asian Games, which was held in Ashgabat, the importance of this work is well understood by many people.
My interlocutor, unfortunately, because of her studies, could not become a voluntary assistant to the grandiose sports festival in her native Ashgabat. She had great experience of volunteer work: helped in holding the Confederations Cup in Russia, which is called a rehearsal of the upcoming World Cup.
Her Ashgabat classmate Anastasia Novoseltseva, now studying at the Southern Federal University of Rostov-on-Don, also tells the guests of the festival in Sochi and not only about the Asian Games. “Many people have heard about it,” the girl says and admits that during the Ashgabat competitions she, being in Russia, supported the girls she knew from the athletics team.
At the festival in Sochi, the girls were happy to take pictures with their native flag. Delegates from other countries followed their example. Moreover, only when they saw the ornaments of the Turkmen flag, many people remembered the touching Alabai puppy, recently presented to Vladimir Putin by the Turkmen Leader.
By the way, in the live broadcast of the solemn opening ceremony of the World Festival of Youth and Students in the Ice Palace "Bolshoi", which was held with the participation of the President of Russian Federation, the patterns of the Turkmen flag flashed repeatedly.
