Foreign ministers of the Caspian countries met in Aktau on the eve of the summit

The heads of the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan held talks on Saturday in Aktau, Kazakhstan, on the eve of the 5th summit of the presidents of the Caspian states.
The main topics of the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the "Caspian Five" were the discussion of issues of cooperation between the states of the region after the expected signing of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, as well as the elaboration of a communiqué of the upcoming meeting of the leaders of coastal countries.
After the signing of the convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea, it is proposed to create a special group to draft an agreement that includes the agreements reflected in the document, Kairat Abdrakhmanov, the Kazakh foreign minister, stated opening the meeting.
He stressed that along with the draft convention, the parties had created an extensive contractual framework, including nine pentalateral documents, and tomorrow it should be supplemented by seven new agreements.
A friendly atmosphere of the meeting was especially noted by journalists who observed informal communication of ministers outside the official part of the meeting. For example, it was noted that the head of the Turkmen foreign ministry, Rashid Meredov, spoke with all his colleagues in their native language at ease.
