The Caspian Sea countries strengthen cooperation in the field of Maritime Security
The commanders of the Naval Forces of the Caspian states signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The signing ceremony was held within the framework of the third working meeting of representatives of the Caspian “five states” in St. Petersburg.
The document provides for cooperation in the field of security, staff training, technical and sea rescue services. The parties discussed a number of issues, related to the implementation of the basic principles of cooperation and strengthening stability in the Caspian Sea.
This meeting is held within the framework of the implementation of agreements, reached by the leaders of Turkmenistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Iran and Azerbaijan on integrated security in the water area of Caspian Sea during the 5th Caspian Summit in August 2018.
“The issue of the Caspian Sea status between the states has already been resolved. Now the next stage is in prospect, along with humanitarian and economic issues, there is also an issue of the Caspian Sea security. The security of the Caspian states is an important component for all countries of the region,” commented Azerbaijani expert Shair Ramaldanov.
According to his version, this agreement is also important for international energy projects that are implemented on the Caspian shelf.
