Selim Gurbansahedov and Ahmed Agalykov are young musicians from Ashgabat. The guys met at one of the Sungat Eseri concerts. Later, their professional relationship led to establish of their own group. On May 11, 2018, three guys joined to make a small jazz band. Two guitars, one saxophone and a youth repertoire – cover versions of famous hits. The band is called “Red Band” since once the guys came to a rehearsal wearing all the red. In time, the composition of “Red Band” jazz band has changed; instead of the second guitarist, there is the violin player Aynur Mahmudova. Ahmed Agalykov is engaged to the music since first grade. Starting to play the piano, he continued with clarinet, and later, on advice of a music teacher, he became interested in saxophone. “Now I am studying at the conservatory in the class of clarinet and saxophone,” says Ahmed. “I can play all 7 types of saxophone, and also study the modern of DJ technique.” Ahmed has many musical ideas. For example, to feature the live music with the electronic sound of a DJ set. There is a quite innovative idea; so afe, he is experimenting with a jazz band. “We are jazz band, and therefore we have formed our repertoire in such a style that we arrange any melodies and songs into jazz compositions. Even “Yesterday” – the famous hit of the legendary “The Beatles” turns into a lounge style music. The musical method of Ahmed is based on constant improvisation – the making of a new melody based on a famous song just during the concert. Such musical impromptu makes the group a real jazz band that never repeat the composition. Aynur Mahmudova is the heart of the jazz trio. She plays the role of not only a “first” violin, but also a vocalist. “We are the only youth group in Turkmenistan that has such an unusual repertoire,” Aynur says. “Any melody of any genre we like is performed in a Jazz Lounge. It is a smooth slow chill out music. Selim Gurbansahedov, just like Ahmed and Aynur, has been passionate about playing a musical instrument – a guitar – since childhood. “My brother played a guitar; at the age of 6, it pushed me to fall in love with this instrument. Very soon, my brother stopped to playing a guitar, while I was keen on it always. Now, I am studying at a music school and a member of a jazz band”, Selim shares. “Red Band” is a young team with far-reaching ideas. The guys would like to give a concert with their music and to record a CD. However, so far, these are plans only. Rehearsing in their free time from school, they find time for performances for the public. The trio ia in demand among youth and the group has the fans already. The well-known proverb says “Big ships need deep waters”. In other words, let us wish every professional success to the “small ship”.
