Turkmen swimmer – silver medalist of Asian Championship in India


Turkmen swimmer, master of sports Merdan Ataev won a silver medal at the 10th Asian Swimming Championships, which is held in Bangalore, India.
He covered the distance of 50 meters on the back with the result of 26:36 seconds, securing the second step of the victory podium.
- Merdan is in good physical trim. Competitions on 100 meters are ahead, where he has all chances to win a gold medal, - comments the Federation of Water Sports of Turkmenistan.
Last year, the fosterling of the honored coach of Turkmenistan Sergey Epifantsev won the silver of the International Tournament in the Tajik city of Khojend, in 2017 – the silver medal of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku.
The Asian Swimming Championship in India, being a qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Tokyo-2020, brought together the strongest athletes from more than 20 countries of the region. They will compete in four water disciplines: Swimming, Diving, Water Polo, Synchronized Swimming. Turkmenistan is represented by seven athletes at the Asian Championship.
In the framework of preparation for these most important competitions from August 20 to September 10, the Turkmen national swimming team participated in training camps in the capital of Tatarstan – Kazan.
