The Taliban arrived in Moscow after suspension of negotiations with the USA
The delegation of the Afghani movement "Taliban" visited Moscow where it carried out negotiations with special representative of the president of Russia for Afghanistan, director of the second department of Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Zamir Kabulov. The meeting took place several days after suspension of negotiations of the "Taliban" with the USA on peaceful settlement in Afghanistan
At negotiations the Russian side underlined necessity of renewal of negotiations of Washington and the Taliban. Earlier similar point of view was expressed by Beijing. The "Taliban", in turn, confirmed readiness for continuation of the dialogue with Washington.
Before it the movement wants to strengthen its negotiating positions, having got the support of regional powers such as Russia, China, Iran, and also countries of Central Asia. Thus, the chief negotiator of the Taliban Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai underlined that the Taliban are also ready to continue war. As a rule, such point of view expresses, not because there is a real desire to be at war, but to show opponents the force of their position.
He stated that the agreement with the USA was ready to sign when President Donald Trump cancelled the planned meetings with the "Taliban" and the president of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani. Later US State Secretary Michael Pompeo, on air of TV channel Fox News, speaking about consultations on situation settlement in Afghanistan, expressed hope of their renewal, but did not specify when it can occur.
At the same time, some analysts connect intensity in relations of the USA with Iran, Venezuela, North Korea and refusal, at the last minute, from continuation of negotiations about the "Taliban" with a hard line position of the adviser for national security John Bolton in these issues. Having fired him, US president Trump showed that entering the campaign of presidential elections for 2020, will not begin to turn intensity in relations with a number of the countries into the phase of military conflict.
Thereupon, experts consider that shortly the position of Washington, most likely, will be softened and it is possible to expect real steps towards solution of conflict in Afghanistan, and also decrease in intensity with Iran and North Korea.
