The first full-fledged talks between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki were successful. Both leaders acknowledged this during a joint press conference. Trump and Putin had a private one-on-one discussion that lasted about four hours long and discussed a number of topical issues of international and regional politics. The talks covered such main topics as the situation in Syria, Ukrainian crisis, the Iranian nuclear dossier, so-called interference of Russia with the American elections, disarmament agenda, economic cooperation and others. The main thing is that the parties started full-scale communication. In addition, it means that they can come to mutual understanding. Because, mutual understanding will not be reached without direct contacts. As an otcome of these negotiations, it is not planned to sign any joint documents. However, of course, after this meeting, the world has become more secure. What did we expect from the talks between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump? Why is it so important for the world? Probably, because you cannot feel yourself good, easy and confident when the relationship of the two nuclear superpowers as worse as has never been before. Even if we do not take into account the military component of Russian-American relationships, the economic confrontation between the West and Russia does not bode well to the world. Sanctions of Western countries against Russia, in turn, Russian counter-sanctions against Western countries – all this worsens the world economy, which is affected already by the global economic crisis during last 10 years. What about anti-terrorism and anti-extremism drive, as well as environmental problems and the wart against poverty? Even joining forces, the world community will not be able to solve these problems. The United States and Russia can have different points of views at different issues of world politics and cannot share the views of each other. However, they are obliged to cooperate in those areas where partnership is possible and necessary. Of course, this meeting will not remove, as if by magic, all the problems between Russia and the West, led by the United States, which accumulated over the past few years. However, this meeting can give the parties an opportunity, as it is said in such cases, to breathe out, stop and think whether everything is going right. This Finnish rendezvous of leaders of the United States and Russia can give the world a new trend for constructive partnership in those areas where it is possible. If follow this way, perhaps the most “deadlock” issues of bilateral relations will cease to seem so, and there will be a way to solve them. And finally, I would assume that tomorrow morning the world stock exchanges will start to grow, because money likes not only silence, but also security.Nury AMANOV
