Turkmenistan’s State Symphony Orchestra: See You Next Season!

On 15th July, the Magtymguly National Music and Drama Theater hosted the season’s final concert by Turkmenistan’s State Symphony Orchestra under conductor Resul Gylyjov. The night began with Beethoven’s Egmont overture for the play of the same name by Goethe. Wagner’s Rienzi overture was played next.Justina HANOVSKI
Performance by Nury Nuryev, who sang Nessun Dorma, Kalaf’s final act from Turandot by Puccini, and Lara’s Granada, was a much welcome gift to the audience.
The audience gave a big round of applause to the musicians and their artistic director for the brilliant performance of Khachaturyan’s Grand Adagio of Spartacus, and Romance and Waltz written for Masquerade, a production of Lermontov’s drama of the same name.
Leyli Okdirova’s charming soprano added a crowning touch to the night with Hijo de la Luna by Jose Maria Cano. The audience thanked the singer with standing ovation for the masterly performance of Alyabyev’s Nightingale.
The program included masterpieces by Nury Halmamedov, whose 80th birthday has been recently celebrated in Turkmenistan with a grand creative festival. The orchestra performed the prominent composer’s musical scores for films Ykbal, Fishermen of the Caspian and the Decisive Step.
The final accord of the night was Danzón No. 2 by Marquez. Not only did the audience listen, but literally saw a dynamic dance. Yes, yes! Just like that! Conducting the group of talented musicians with magical swings of a baton, Resul Gylyjov seemed to be dancing along to the melody with the whole orchestra. His every move was a reflection of dynamic music, and it was quite an impressive show. That is what a true maestro is!
