A new transport corridor will connect Central Asia with Europe via the Caspian Sea
With the commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) steel trunk line, the construction of which was completed very recently, the creation of a corridor between the Central Asian region and Europe begins to acquire real features.
The basis for the construction of the BTC railroad, over eight hundred kilometers in length and with the annual cargo turnover of 17 million tons, is a tripartite document between the Caucasian states Azerbaijan and Georgia and Euro-Asian Turkey.
Experts believe that this transport corridor promises significant economic benefits both for the Caucasus region and the states of Central Asia. The connection in the future to this transport project of the most important Turkmen and Kazakh ports in the Caspian Sea will create a transport and communication corridor that will make the countries of the European Union significantly "closer" to the states of Central Asia.
Now the construction of the "sea gate" in Central Asia - the modern port of Turkmenbashi is being completed on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea. Its throughput capacity, according to the project, is up to 18 million tons, and taking into account the capacities of the old port - up to 26 million tons annually.
The transport route of the Central Asian part of the continent from Europe via the Caspian Sea via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will provide, according to experts, the most profitable route for passenger and cargo transportation.
