Igor Makarov has been appointed as an Expert under the Advisor to the President of Turkmenistan on Oil and Gas Issues
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received his adviser on oil and gas issues Yagshigeldi Kakayev and the head of the International Group of Companies “ARETI” with headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland) Igor Makarov. During the meeting, Mr. Kakayev updated the head of state about developments in the energy sector, including measures to modernize and diversify the industry. Mr. Kakayev also requested Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to appoint Igor Makarov as an expert under the Advisor to the President of Turkmenistan on oil and gas issues. Having approved the candidacy of the head of IGC “ARETI” for the above position, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the long-term relationship with the holding, which is a long-standing business partner of Turkmenistan. Mr. Makarov expressed gratitude to the head of state and emphasized that, as a native, he would make every effort to contribute to the growth of Turkmenistan. We should mention that this is a remarkable appointment. After all, businessman Igor Makarov has extensive experience in the gas sector, and especially in the field of gas trade in the CIS and Baltic countries. It is noteworthy that in the 90s of the last century, a businessman took an active part in the sale of Turkmen gas to Ukraine and other post-Soviet states. It is this period in Ukraine that people recall as the golden time when Kiev bought natural gas directly from Ashgabat. Many Ukrainian politicians would like to regain the opportunity to buy Turkmen gas, but as they say, this is an equation with many unknowns. As for Mr. Makarov, his experience will certainly be in demand especially now, when issues of export of Turkmen gas are becoming of great importance.
