European experts conducted a training course on port control in Turkmenbashi


Turkmen specialists have improved their knowledge at tutoring course on Port State Control. The event was organized by the European Maritime Security Agency (EMSA) as part of a technical assistance project implemented in line with the European Neighbourhood Policy.
The five-day training, which consisted of theoretical and practical parts, was held by international experts of EMSA – officers of the Latvian Maritime Administration and the Italian Coast Guard.
Experienced mentors shared with their Turkmen colleagues information on the best practices of port supervision of ships in accordance with international conventions, European standards and IMO procedures.
The obtained theoretical knowledge was worked out in practice during the training inspections and onboard inspections in the port of Turkmenbashi. The, practical lessons were followed by de-briefing activities, sharing lessons learned and best practices.
The European Maritime Safety Agency is charged with reducing the risk of maritime accidents, marine pollution from ships and the loss of human lives at sea by helping to enforce the pertinent EU legislation. It is headquartered in Lisbon.
The EMSA project on technical assistance to the countries of the Black sea and Caspian sea basin, which brings together national, European and international stakeholders with the aim to raise the safety, security and protection of marine environment standards. Beneficiary countries: Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Ukraine, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
The project focal point in Turkmenistan is the State service of maritime and river transport.
