Turkmen national costume presented at the ethnological festival in Serbia

Material cultural heritage will inspire the future – this was the message of the ethnological festival "West Etnology Fest" held in Belgrade.
In the third final day of the cultural show, hosted by the Ethnographic Museum, a member of the Moscow member of the Association of Handicraft Masters, Professor Korpegul Khudayberdieva held a master-class dedicated on the national costume of Turkmenistan.
Despite the fact that Khudayberdyeva has been living in the Russian Federation for the last few years, her main activity is aimed at promoting the glorious craft traditions of her ancestors. She is engaged in weaving, modeling and creation of stylized Turkmen folk costumes.
The embroidered scull-cap tahya, women's robes, traditional capes made of keteni cloths and other things unique by the ornamental design presented at a small exhibition struck the audience of the Art Theater of the Museum by a riot of scarlet-red fire colors.
In her lecture, Khudayberdieva told about every variety of national costume and noted that the red color for the Turkmen people is a symbol of natural strength and has magical protective properties. "That is why, unlike other nations, the wedding dress of a Turkmen girl consists of a silk dress and a head robe in red color,” the Professor explained.
The famous Russian fashion designer Slava Zaitsev, who has several times visited Ashgabat with fashion shows, was an honored guest of the festival. He was very interested in the technique of tailoring, materials and the intricacies of the Turkmen national clothing.
A separate part of the presentation was devoted to the skills of Turkmen jewelers. Since ancient times, jewelry made of silver and gold, gracefully encrusted with natural stones, have been an integral part of women's dresses, and the total weight of jewelry decorating the wedding clothes of a Turkmen girl reaches 16-20 kilograms.
In short, on this day of the festival, residents and guests of one of the European capitals learned a lot about the Turkmen culture, having the opportunity to acquaint with the firm traditions passed down by the Turkmen people from generation to generation.
