Future of journalism around the world of fake news discusses in Istanbul

Top newsmakers from the Asia-Pacific region have gathered in Istanbul, Turkey, for the 5th Global News Forum (GNF) by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). The theme for this year’s gathering is “Trust and Truth in Journalism” which brought together delegates from 30 or more countries, where delegation of Turkmenistan also participated.
Noting that the fast-changing nature of the media landscape prompted the decision to make the Global News Forum an annual event, Dr Javad Mottaghi, Secretary General of the ABU, said the recent headlines around the world made it even more critical for the Media to have a strong sense of social responsibility and to offer true, accurate and objective reports.
“As evidence mounts around the world of manipulation on a vast scale, of fake news, of social media hoaxes and of blatant propaganda, it is clear that Trust and Transparency are the new currency for media in the Digital Age,” Dr Mottaghi said.
The 2019 Global News Forum discussed the key events of the past year that have shaped the current media landscape, as well as new technology and tools to help the business of news thrive in the Media 3.0 Era.
Special presentations include “Taking responsibility: An innovative approach to journalism and humanitarianism” and “Building trust with your audience in shifting times”, with panel sessions on “The role of public media organizations in a Fake News world”.
The 6th annual Global News Forum will be hosted by UATV in Ukraine in mid-July 2020.
