Emir Kusturica is planning to film the novel Aitmatov


Serbian Director Emir Kusturica plans to shoot a film based on the works by Chingiz Aitmatov in Kazakhstan. Of its intention, the cult director announced at the XIV International Film Festival “Eurasia” that was completed in Astana. Kusturitsa admitted that Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov is one of his favorite authors, so he decided to make a film based on his work in the Kazakh steppes. What kind of work will form the basis of the picture, the Director did not elaborate. To guess what work of Aitmatov “went deep into the soul” of Emir Kusturica is not possible even helped by such a “hint” from the director as the Kazakh steppes, since the life of the heroes of many works of Chingiz Aitmatov passes in the steppe. The XIV International Film Festival “Eurasia” is gradually gaining popularity attracting the attention of movie stars, organizers of major international film festivals, well-known experts and critics of the film industry. This year, around 1000 applications from around the world, including Central Asian states, were submitted for participation in the International Film Festival “Eurasia”. The Grand Prix of the Film Festival was given to a film “The Party is Over” by Marie Garel Weiss (France). The special prizes of the jury were given to the films “Mama” by Maria Hatchani (Georgia) and “Chasing the hitchhiking” directed by Hije Jong (South Korea). Also, a special diploma from “El-Arna” TV channel was given to the Kazakh film “Undivided” by Olzhas Akhmetov.
