Oryol and Mary - twin cities and prospective partners
Today on the sidelines of the official visit of President Vladimir Putin of Russia to Ashgabad, the governors Vadim Potomskiy of the Oryol region and Annagurbanov Byashim of Mary province have signed the Agreement on the establishment of twin-city relations between Mary and Oryol. The document is aimed at developing close ties between the administrative centers of the two territorial units in such key areas of economy, science, culture, sports, and tourism. Vadim Potomskiy is a native of Mary, where he spent his childhood and school years. In recent years, one of the promising lines of the Turkmen-Russian cooperation is direct interaction between the subjects of the Russian Federation and the regions of Turkmenistan. Bilateral economic ties with the Oryol region have quite spacy room for realization. In February last year, during the visit of the Turkmen delegation to Orel and during regular meeting of the intergovernmental commission, the parties specified the plans for the opening of the Turkmen-Russian Trade House in the Oryol. Moreover, the region intends to attract Turkmen partners to the project on creation of production facilities on the territory of the industrial park "Green Grove". Another off-the-shelf area is the partnership between textile enterprises. The turnover between Oryol region and Turkmenistan for the H1 2017 is estimated at US $ 0.3 million. The food products, pumping and refrigeration equipment, power generators, utility equipment and surface transport vehicles, manufactured in Oryol, has found ready market in Turkmenistan. The mechanisms of humanitarian cooperation are on the run already. Oryol region is contributing to the stuff training for the national economy of Turkmenistan. About 500 Turkmen students study at its universities and institutes, over 350 of them receive higher education at the Institute of Economics and Trade.
