New position of adviser on trade and economic issues has been opened at the Embassy of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan. The corresponding resolution was signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Similar positions have also been added since 1 July to the staffing of Uzbek diplomatic missions to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. According to the existing legislation of Uzbekistan, adviser on trade and economic issues is charged with such tasks as analysis of trends and dynamics of the host country's economic sectors, development of proposals for the development of foreign economic relations, implementation of measures to expand the range of mutual trade, expansion and deepening of bilateral cooperation in the field of transport and transit, ensuring the active participation of companies and organizations of the host country in the investment processes in Uzbekistan, attracting tourist flows from the host country, promoting cooperation between research centers and the implementation of joint research programs, etc. Probably, the opening of a new position in the embassies in Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is due to the recent line of Tashkent on intensifying economic cooperation with its nearest neighbors. In 2017, the total trade turnover between Uzbekistan and the three mentioned countries exceeded US $ 660 million or 16% higher comparing to 2016. In accordance with the priority directions of foreign policy development with the main foreign partners announced in April this year, Uzbekistan is aimed at increasing the trade turnover with Turkmenistan to US $ 500 million.
