Gulangyu and Hoh Sil are listed as World Heritage

Millennial unique oriental traditions, closely intertwined in the Celestial Empire with modern technologies, invariably attract a huge number of travelers, each of which finds his own reason to fall in love with this beautiful land. The island of Gulangyu and the Hoh Sil nature reserve, located in China, have been listed as World Cultural and Natural Heritage by UNESCO. To date, China has 52 World Heritage sites. Hoh Sil means green "mountain ranges" in Mongolian and a "beautiful girl" in Tibetan. This is the highest altitude object in the list of World Heritage objects, its average height is 4,500 meters. Highlands are home to a large number of plants and animals, including Tibetan antelope. The Hoh Sil natural reserve was established in 1995, to protect the natural habitat and livestock of these species. As a result, thanks to universal efforts, now here live more than 60 thousand Tibetan antelope. The island of Gulangyu, located in Xiamen, Fujian, borders Taiwan through the Taiwan Strait. The local flora blossoms all year round and architectural buildings of different styles stand along the zigzag shores of the island. Not surprisingly, the island has reputation of the world architectural museum and garden at the sea. Since 1843 the city served as a trading port and was home to many foreigners. 13 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan, established consulates there. The island has witnessed the transition of China in modern times, as well as the integration of local and exotic cultures.
