BOMCA holds a seminar on customs control in Ashgabat


These days Ashgabat hosts the national workshop for customs regulation, organized by the EU Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA).
During the three-day seminar invited EU experts and officers of the State customs service of Turkmenistan discuss such issues as customs control on export, import and transit of strategic and dual use goods, dangerous chemicals, non-food items.
The worshop also touches upon such topics as movement across the customs border of endangered species of flora and fauna, i.e. the objects of the Convention on international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora (CITES), were also touched upon.
Turkmen specialists are getting acquainted with of new working tools for combat illegal trade, fraud, customs control on radiation.
The increasing role of Turkmenistan as the most important transport crossroads in Eurasia, and therefore growing cargo and passenger traffic, necessitate continuous improvement of experience and introduction of international practice in the activities of the country’s customs authorities. From this point of view, trainings and workshops, led by international experts, contribute to the professional growth of Turkmen customs officers.
The State customs service of Turkmenistan is one of the beneficiaries of the BOMCA project. Programme’s 9th phase was recently extended by decision of the European Commission until the end of next year.
