Turkmenistan co-authored the UN resolution on gender
At the 35th session of the UN Human Rights Council held in Geneva, at which a wide range of issues on the international human rights agenda was discussed and a number of documents were adopted. Turkmenistan has co-authored some of them concerning the protection of women's rights. Among them - the resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations "Realizing the equal enjoyment of the right to education by every girl". Turkmenistan's co-authorship on the documents adopted at the 35th session of the UN Human Rights Council is a continuation of the actions of the Turkmen government in the framework of the implementation of the National Action Plans for Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2016-2020, as well as on gender equality for the period of 2015-2020. Turkmenistan acceded to the following international conventions on this subject: the UN Convention on the Rights of Children (1994), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (2009), the Convention on the Political Rights of Women (1999), the International Labor Organization Convention on Equal Remuneration for Men and Women For work of equal value (1996). Currently, the proportion of women working in various sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan is 39.5 percent. Women are mainly employed in healthcare, physical culture and social security (72.5 percent), in education (67.7 percent), lending, finance and insurance (52.6 percent), hotel and restaurant business (57.3 percent). The share of women in such industries as manufacturing (38.8 percent), information and communication (42.3 percent), trade and catering (32 percent) is also quite high.
