The first ambassador of Zambia is accredited in Turkmenistan
On June 11, Shadrek Luwit, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Zambia in Turkmenistan, presented his credentials to the chairman of the Mejlis, Gulshat Mammadova. The protocol on cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Zambia was signed on December 12, 1993, however, Mr. Luwit became the first representative of this South African country officially accredited in Turkmenistan. At the meeting in the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan, the diplomat expressed his intention to bring the bilateral cooperation of the two countries to a new level, while counting on productive and effective interaction in various spheres of the economy. Considering the great potential of the two countries in agriculture, the sides expressed interest in developing cooperation in this sector, mainly in the cotton industry. Agriculture products account for the bulk of Zambia's exports. 85% of the country's population is engaged in this area. Along with the agro-industrial complex, interaction in the oil and gas sphere is seen as relevant. Despite the fact that Zambia imports oil products and electricity, it has sufficient hydropower resources, as well as reserves of copper, lead, cobalt, coal and emerald.
