Indian wrestlers to compete at Ashgabat-2017
Six wrestlers from Nagaland, northeastern state of India, will join the national team of the country at 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat, reported Indian media. Vechita Khesoh, Keduovilie Zumu, Surhoneyi Soho, Visevo Zashümo, Venuzo Dawhuo and Menuosetuo Yiese will compete in traditional and belt wrestling Naga wrestlers will represent the National Traditional Wrestling Federation of India. Reigning Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) champion Vechita Khesoh will compete in the category of 100+kg, while former champions Surhonieyi Soho and Venuzo Dawhuo, both will contend in 94 kg and 74 kg categories respectively. Menuosetuo Yiese will rival in the 96 kg category, and fourth-line holder at the NWA tournament 2016, Keduovilie Zumu will compete in 94 kg. Veteran wrestler champion of national tournaments Visevo Zashümo will participate in 84 kg. The wrestlers team will leave New Delhi to Ashgabat on 13 September. The delegation will also include NWA President Neivikuolie Nicholas Khatsü, Secretary Vekhozo and Vice President Mitwatei Haibwang. NWA leadership hopes that Naga sportsmen will return home with medals and champion titles. For the first time, on the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov, national wrestling “goresh” was included to the program of the Games "Ashgabat-2017", consisting of 21 sports. The International Federation of Greco-Roman wrestling, free-style wrestling and women's wrestling introduced the traditional wrestling into the program of the Asian Games-2017.
