The issue of the use of renewable energy sources is the topical in the world. Countries such as USA, Germany, Spain, India and China are already actively developing “solar” energy, allocating huge areas for the construction of solar power plants. Thus, the Chinese company Panda Green Energy in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) built a panda-shaped solar power station in the Chinese province of Shanxi near the city of Datong. Panda Solar Power Plants are designed in accordance with the image of China’s national treasure – the Giant Panda. The black part are composed of monocrystalline silicon solar cells, and the greyish white part are composed of thin film solar cells and n-type bifacial solar cells. The colors of solar panels are black and white, so that the whole plant is presented as a giant panda by looking down from above. The solar park is also home to an education centre that aims to teach children about the importance of sustainable and renewable energy. At the first stage of connection, the capacity of the power plant was 50 MW. It will have a capacity of 100MW when fully connected, providing 3.2 billion kWh of green electricity in 25 years. That’s equivalent to saving 1.056 million tons of coal, or reducing 2.74 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Panda Green Energy is currently in talks to launch more panda-shaped power stations.
