Central Asia and South Caucasus to discuss disaster risk reduction in Yerevan


Yerevan will host Regional conference on disaster risk reduction on 26-29 June with participation of countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus. The statement came recently from the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction. The capital of Armenia will bring together will bring together ministers, mayors, private sector, academia, international organizations, civil society and delegates from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The key-note of the forum will be an integrated platform for sustainable development and building resilience. “This region is severely affected by disasters including earthquakes, landslides, floods, droughts and extreme temperatures, man-made and technological hazards”, said the UN Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction, Ms. Mami Mizutori. It is expected that conference will review progress in Europe on implementing the global plan to reduce disaster losses and will encourage the further implementation of the Sendai Framework in Central Asia and South Caucasus.
