Turkmen sambo wrestlers participate in the First CIS National Sports Festival in Ulyanovsk
On August 12-16, Ulyanovsk will host the First CIS National Sports and Games Festival. The team of sambo wrestlers – five athletes from the school of high sports achievements and their coach will represent Turkmenistan at the festival. The main goal of the First CIS National Sports and Games Festival is to enhance the mutual relations between the fraternal CIS peoples and, above all, to promote the values of the active and healthy life-style. The festival programme includes the competitions in tug-of-war, sambo, belt wrestling, checkers, weightlifting, archery, ball hockey, gorodki, lapta bat. Over 300 athletes from seven countries will compete for the medals. Five countries will present their national sports at the festival. Young Turkmen athletes, who will represent our country in Ulyanovsk, is the reserve sambo national team of Turkmenistan that at present is preparing for the 2017 Asian Games. Thus, the main task of our young wrestlers is to accumulate the experience of international performances. Combat and sports sambo are included into the programme of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games to be held in Ashgabat on September 17-27. Our athletes have good chances for the victory. That is proved by their numerous achievements on the world sports arena. For example, in February 2016, the capital of Belarus – Minsk hosted a round of the Sports and Combat Sambo World Cup. Our sportsmen won seven medals - one gold, two silver and four bronze medals. The national team of Turkmenistan won two gold, three silver and two bronze medals of the Sambo World Cup in Moscow, in March, 2017. Turkmen athletes won 66 medals (21 gold medals, 26 silver and 19 bronze medals) of the 2016 Asia Sambo Championship held in Ashgabat in May.
