Transport and logistics companies of Turkmenistan study international management standards


A five-day seminar, organized by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was devoted to improvement of management systems in transport and logistics companies of Turkmenistan and increase their export potential. Today, large-scale projects have been launched in the country to create a transport and transit infrastructure, geography and trade ties are expanding. However, as local transport and logistics firms understand, rational management that meets market requirements is a key to take advantage of improved trade opportunities. The participants of the training were presented the advantages of integrated management systems, which allow which allow companies to combine all of their procedures and processes into one complete framework to reduce the volume of documentation and the costs of service delivery. The system is beneficial from the point of meeting the demand of customers, raising the prestige of the organization, creating a unified corporate culture where staff is aware of their role in achieving the company's common goals. During the seminar, several traditional IMS options were considered, for the implementation of which ISO standards are the organizational and methodological guidance. It includes ISO standards related to the quality of services, environmental management, labor protection, industrial safety. The seminar was held under USAID’s Competitiveness, Trade and Jobs program in Central Asia, aimed at contributing to the establishment of a sustainable private sector through developing the competitiveness of companies in the region and removing barriers to trade. Turkmenistan actively promotes its transport and logistics services at the world market. In April, the Turkmen Logistic Association was established, which helps businessmen in mastering international rules and standards in the logistics field and advanced practice of promoting goods. Also, recently the Government of Turkmenistan decided to establish a National Logistics and Forwarding Association with its subsequent joining the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA).
