The Caspian countries have agreed the drafts of the five-sided documents
The regular meeting of the Special Working Group of the Caspian littoral states on the preparation of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea was held in Astana. Delegations led by Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Caspian states – Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan – participated at the meeting. According to media reports, along with the draft of Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, the parties have completed the negotiation process on the coordination of drafts of a number of documents, which are planned to be signed in a five-sided format, and discussed the preparation to the Fifth Summit of the Heads of the Caspian littoral states, which is scheduled for 2018. Among the documents considered are draft agreements on cooperation in transport, on trade and economic cooperation, on prevention of incidents in the Caspian Sea, protocols on cooperation in combating terrorism and organized crime in the Caspian Sea, and on the interaction of border agencies.
