On May 22-24, in Ashgabat, the International University for the Humanities and Development (IUHD) hosted a conference “Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road” in the scope of the ERASMUS+ Regional Objectives for Administrative Development (ROAD) Project. ROAD is a joint project of ERASMUS + programme, EU, and the governments of Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan aimed to enhance local development strategy of civil servants through improving their competencies by creating a face to face and virtual training and counselling campus and some recommendations for sustainable development. The project involves a number of authoritative international institutions such as: the International University for the Humanities and Development and the Turkmen State Institute of Finance (Turkmenistan), the Consulting Group on Capacity Building, the Kyrgyz State University named after I. Arabaev and Jalal-Abad State University, Issykkul State University named after K. Tynystanov, the Public Administration School of Catalonia, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the University of Rovira and Virgili, Spain, and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. Professors and representatives of these educational institutions are advisers of the project. In IUHD, they delivered lectures on the ERASMUS+ and ROAD activity, sustainable tourism and economic development, and the creation of “smart” eco-cities. - Our idea was to create an infrastructure that can exist here in Turkmenistan after the project is completed, and which will ensure competent training and professional development of officials from regional administrations. Under the infrastructure we mean people – specialists in this field, educational centers, and representatives in administrative bodies who have already passed this whole path and are able to share experience and “a look from the inside,” says Victor Kordash, representative of the KTH Royal Institute of Technology of Sweden. A practical workshop on the topic “Emotional Intelligence” to develop special skills among faculty and administrative staff with managerial responsibilities was held also. The project budget is 815.588.00 euros and is designed for 3 years. During the three days of the conference, a multicultural exhibition was held in the foyer of the IUHD, and students’ amateur activities performed.Maya AMANMURADOVA
