Iran launches the production of human cells

Last week, the first human cell production Center in the Middle East was opened in Tehran.
The institution, created jointly by the pharmaceutical company “Barakat” and “Royan” Research Institute, is focused on the production of valuable cellular products, which will be used in the treatment of various cardiovascular, dermatological and bone diseases.
By 2021, the complex will begin to produce fibroblasts - most common cells of connective tissue.
In Iran, research in the field of stem cell applications and bioengineering has gained new momentum since 2014 with the creation of “Celltech Pharmed Co”.
In a recent interview with the Science News Agency, the head of Celltech Pharmed Co, the head of cell therapy center at the Royan Institute, Dr. Nasser Aghdami, commented on the opening of the Center: “If we do not waste time, we will fulfill the ultimate goal of generating spare parts of the human body.”
“Currently, a cell is produced and dispatched to the body so that it might repair a specific organ. However, if supported, we will be able to gradually create spare parts of the body outside it”, the researcher stressed.
The center was built in three years. 500 billion rials have been invested in the development and construction of a pilot industrial unit for the production of stem cells.
