Why Turkmenistan with a population of about seven million people has invested a huge five billion dollars in the organization of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games that are now taking place in the beautiful capital of Ashgabat? This question is asked by correspondent of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), William D. Eza, who arrived in the Turkmen capital for the 5th Asian Games. According to the journalist, sport has ceased to be a form of active recreation. Today, sport is an instrument of national development, and many states endeavor to use sport as a catalyst, accelerator of progress. Turkmenistan, which became independent in 1991, joins a group of countries that want to use sport for their development, and also invest in the future generation of the nation. Since the decision to hold the 5th Asian Games in Turkmenistan, the country has built a new Olympic stadium, a modern international airport, 5-star hotels, shopping centers, new roads. Today Ashgabat is a completely new and modern city. And all this was done in seven years. For the people of Turkmenistan hosting these competitions, the creation of a new infrastructure is part of the development for future generations.
