As for the whole sports organization, these powers are transferred to the team of the organizers of the marathon "Africa Eco Reis" under the leadership of Jean-Louis Schlesser. His team received a contract for three years to organize a "turn-key" race.
The project "Turkmen Desert Race" was also presented to the commission of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for rally-raids, which considers its inclusion in the world series of status races.
The Moscow presentation was attended by journalists from dozens of well-known print, television and Internet media, including Forbes, Peace and Politics, Russian News, My Planet, Echo of Moscow, Eurosport, Olympic panorama, "Championship.com ", etc.
From the experience of the past: in 1992 four stages of the supermarathon "Paris Moscow Beijing - The West-East raid" ("Paris-Moscow-Beijing") passed through the territory of Turkmenistan. Then the first bivouac stretched in Nebit-Dag (now Balkanabat). Then, through the sands of the Karakum desert, the course was taken to Darvaza, known for the gas crater "Gates of Hell." And the final 686-kilometer section led the participants to Uzbekistan. The route of the supermarathon was laid by the French specialist René Metge, who is currently the sports director of the marathon "Africa Eco Reis".
The next time an off-road marathon already called "Master rally" was in the sands of Turkmenistan in 1997. Rene Metge again laid out his route. The caravan-rally arrived to Turkmenbashi from Venice. Then there was a 60-kilometer prologue called Last Flight, the 628-kilometer stage of The Revived Sea, 662 kilometers to Darwaza and The Oxus to Turkmenabat (ancient Amul).
In 2009, the country hosted the participants of the international Silk Way rally, the stage of the prestigious ASO series "Dakar Serie", which started in the Russian capital - Moscow and, passing through the territory of Kazakhstan, finished in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan.
It is significant that 2018 marks the 85th anniversary of the Kara-Kum race, the first motor race of the Soviet Union, in the geography of which there was also a start in Moscow, and then - the Karakum desert, the Amul and the Caspian - Hazar.
