Turkmenistan puts forward on international agenda the initiative to establish common transport corridor


Berdimuhammedov put forward the proposal to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) to discuss the possibility of creating of the Model Highway for Central Asia with the access to Turkey as well as the construction of the transport corridor Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey (Lazurite Corridor). The president said this at the International Forum “The Great Silk Road: Towards New Frontiers of Development”, reports TDH. The Turkmen leader noted that these transport projects are connected directly to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and Turkmenistan is ready to play the most active role in the discussion and implementation of these projects. Berdimuhamedov said also that Turkmenistan is ready to act as an active partner and member of TRACECA programme, since the formation of western transport corridor from Central Asia plays an important role in connecting the economic poles of Eurasia.
