The national holiday celebrated outside the home country is always a great opportunity to tell the world about the cultural and spiritual uniqueness of own people. The celebration of Nowruz, held at the University of Wyoming www.orient.tm under the auspices of the Central Asian Student Association (CASA) became such kind of event. This year the student contingent from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan associated one of the brightest holiday in the calendar of Central Asia with the theme of the Great Silk Road. The action, which took place in Wyoming Union Ballroom, started with welcoming dances and continued with the short video description dedicated to each of the countries of the region. The guests applauded to the staging of wedding customs that exist among the Central Asian nationalities. The most "tasty" part of the celebration acquainted the audience with the delights of the Asian dastarkhan. According to the head of CASA Dilnoza Khasilova, the purpose of the campaign was to cover all Central Asian countries and raise awareness about the culture of the region. And the organizers succeeded. “Our students from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan did a wonderful job of celebrating their home countries and cultures through dance, music, food and costume”, commented Laurie Nichols, President of UW, adding “Thanks to our students who did a spectacular job of sharing the beauty of their countries and cultures from Central Asia!”. “It was interesting because I didn’t know so many stuff, like the dresses and the colors and the costumes. They are pretty different [from] what I thought”, shared student from South America Juan Vintimilla. By the way, the euphoria of Novruz at University of Wyoming captured not only CASA members. Students from the Russian Federation also actively participated in the preparation and hosting of the event. Central Asian Student Association at UW was established in October 2011.
