Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to boost transport projects

At the end of the Turkmen-Uzbek high-level talks, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke to the mass media on the outcomes of the talks. Summing up the meeting, the Turkmen leader noted that concrete steps of further cooperation between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the political, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres were outlined during the talks. Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the states will jointly implement large-scale projects in strategic spheres, such as transport, communications and energy. Agreements on the joint implementation of the transport corridor along Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Caspian Sea route and the Southern Transport Corridor were reached. At the meeting, ways of expanding the Turkmen-Uzbek trade turnover were discussed and concretized, and agreements to strengthen cooperation between businesspersons of neighboring countries and at the intergovernmental level were reached. Noting that last year became “breakthrough” in Turkmen-Uzbek relations, President Mirziyoyev said that today's meeting confirms the commitment of both states to close cooperation. The Uzbek leader noted that during the “one-on-one” meeting, agreements on joint promotion of projects in the transport and logistics sector were reached. “This will be useful for both our economies, for our citizens,” Mirziyoyev stressed.
