What Turkmenistan imports and where does it come from?


The rapid expansion of the network of import-substituting industries in Turkmenistan causes a decrease in the volume of goods imported into the country, including technical products, the production of which has been established in the entrepreneurial sector of the national economy.
During the first two months of 2018, the largest share in the import of non-food consumer goods fell on technological devices and optical devices - they accounted for a quarter of all imports. Here, the demand is formed by educational and research institutions, the health care system and industrial enterprises.
At the same time, there was an increase in a number of import items: animals, photo items, movies and video goods (67%), published goods (more than 185%), pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and perfumes, clothing, footwear, sports equipment and furniture. Also this year more trees and plants were brought in, landscaping cities and villages, new parks and forests.
With the diversification of domestic food production and the development of processing industries of the agro-industrial complex, the import of food products will gradually decreases, with its volume already falling down by 11.6% in January-February 2018 compared to the same period in 2017. At the same time, the supply of apples, pears other fruits, citrus fruits, nuts, sugar, meat and fish products to the country increased by more than 40%.
By countries, the largest volume of imports came from the UAE, 36% more than the last year's level for the first two months. Turkish imports, although still in the second place in terms of value, has fallen more than twice. But the supplies from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, and the Netherlands have increased.
The third line in the import of Turkmenistan is China, followed by Japan, Russia, Germany, Britain, and Iran.
