WHO: mother’s health in Turkmenistan doubles

The indicators of mother’s health in Turkmenistan have been improved twice comparing with 2010 according to the evaluation of the UNICEF, UNPF and WHO. Elena Panova, the UN Permanent Coordinator in Turkmenistan / Representative of the UN Population Fund, announced it recently. The Government of Turkmenistan invests to the protection of maternity and childhood, as well as to the support of the family. Several strategies in health protection, education and social protection have been adopted in the country. National strategy and Work Plan for 2016 – 2019 “Health Protection of Mother and Child, Infants, Children and Teenagers in Turkmenistan”, programme “Pediatrics of development and early intervention” in 2016 – 2019 as well as the programmes to promote breastfeeding and the introduction of the status of a “child-friendly hospital” deserve special mention.Ayjahan ATABALLIYEVA
Since 2016, the country has been implementing the “Law of Turkmenistan on the promotion and support of breastfeeding”, which also includes measures to protect pregnant women and nursing mothers from negative factors that prevent breastfeeding. In addition, there is the National Breastfeeding Week in Turkmenistan, which is aimed to remind of the irreplaceability of mother's milk. Moreover, according to the “Cluster Study of Numerous Indicators”, high level of immunization was confirmed on 97 percent level in Turkmenistan. The government of the country spends 11 million US dollars on immunization.
Provision of wealthy life of children, their preparedness to the school and light future after the graduation, provision of every child and mother with high quality medical services are the priority direction of the domestic policy of the state. In addition, the implementation of the WHO and UN instructions on supporting breastfeeding is another important step in this way.
