Pakistan International Airlines, biggest national carries, joins the campaign on saving the markhor, scanty Central Asian animal under the threat of extinction.
The carrier have decided to put the picture of the mountain goat, which is a national symbol, on its fleet of aircrafts. Particularly, large image of markhor will be depicted on the tail and two smaller on the engines.
“We decided to create public awareness through our branding strategy,” said spokesperson of PIA, Mashood Tajwar in interview to China Global Television Network.
“The airline will work towards protecting the animal and also preserving its shrinking habitat,” he added.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature classifies markhor in the near threatened category as their number has decreased to below 10,000. This species is found in northeastern Afghanistan, northern India, northern and central Pakistan, southern Tajikistan and southern Uzbekistan.
In Turkmenistan, the subspecies called Turkmen markhor inhabits the mountain ranges of Koytendag preserve, located in southeastern part of the country.
