IOM specialists shared their experience with Turkmen media workers

A two-day seminar for media representatives on the prevention of irregular migration and trafficking in human beings has opened on Tuesday, April 10th, in the Turkmen capital. The multilateral meeting was organized in the UN office in Ashgabat by the Government of Turkmenistan jointly with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Participants - representatives of the press services of government agencies, television, radio, as well as Internet media from the capital and velayats of the country - comprehended the world experience in covering the problems of migration and human trafficking. The seminar was held in the format of an open, constructive discussion. Participants asked questions and complemented each other. The role of the media in preventing trafficking in human beings and ways of informing the public about threats and challenges of the present were discussed. They touched on artistic techniques, as well as ways to cover the above topics. It should be noted that Turkmenistan already has a positive experience of cooperation with the IOM. Since 2014, the country is actively working to counter trafficking in persons. The working group considers migration, asylum, ensuring the rights of refugees and stateless persons.
