AFC highly appreciated the sports infrastructure of Ashgabat
On Saturday, April 7th, a delegation of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) led by its President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa arrived in Ashgabat. The purpose of the visit is to search for new opportunities for cooperation with sports structures of Turkmenistan.
It is noteworthy that the guests arrived in Ashgabat on World Health Day, when various sporting events are held in the country, charging the air with a special Olympic spirit.
Early in the morning, a mass bike ride was held in the capital, in which over five thousand Turkmen citizens took part, and closer to dinner a delegation of the AFC arrived at an international airport in Ashgabat on a scheduled flight.
The exchange of views on such topical issues as the promotion of football in Asia, the holding of major international football competitions and the strengthening of interaction in these areas allowed the participants in the meetings to outline the first steps to intensify contacts in these areas.
Within the framework of the visit, the AFC delegation got acquainted and highly appreciated the sports infrastructure of Ashgabat. In recent years, the Turkmen capital has become a real sports oasis, filled with stadiums, training facilities, multi-disciplinary playgrounds of world level. As local and foreign sports commentators emphasize, this opens up a wide range of opportunities for large-scale competitions, including international football championships in Turkmenistan.
Considering this, following the visit of the AFC representatives, we can expect very specific joint plans for holding football championships under the patronage of the Confederation in Turkmenistan, which has a great potential in this area.
