Development of the IT industry in Turkmenistan: prospects and initiatives

The first general meeting of members of the public organization "Union of Information Technologies of Turkmenistan", created by the initiative group, will be held on April 12. Representatives of international companies that are partners of Turkmenistan in the field of information technologies are invited to the meeting as observers. The new union intends to interact actively with government agencies, international public organizations, as well as private companies and foundations in the field of implementing IT technologies in the work process. It will promote the development of information and communication technologies in the country by improving the computer literacy of the population. For this purpose, the members of the Union will hold thematic conferences, events and educational trainings in state institutions and educational institutions of Turkmenistan. A number of legal and administrative issues will be discussed at the meeting, as well as provisions on goals and tasks of the union will be discussed. Earlier, on February 9, 2018, the TDH news agency reported that at a government session, President Berdimuhamedov instructed the Academy of Sciences to develop the new state programme “Digital Turkmenistan” aimed at promoting the development of the information and communication technology and increasing the contribution of this sector into the GDP of the country, as well as the acceleration the transfer to the innovative rails of the national economy and job growth in knowledge-based industries.Ayjahan ATABALLIYEVA
