Kurban Bayramy: Ancient Legend of the Righteous Prophet
Numerous adherents of Islam in Turkmenistan celebrate one of the most important holidays of this religion - Kurban Bayramy, named after the prophet, which in the Turkmen transcription is called Yvrayim (in the Koran - Ibrahim, in the Bible - Abraham).
All three days of this holiday are declared non-working in the country. Today the morning prayer began with a special prayer for such cases, which was read in all the Muslim mosques of the country.
Kurban Bayramy holiday is also called the "Feast of the Sacrifice". According to the Quranic legends, which almost completely coincide with the Biblical, the Supreme God ordered the prophet Yvrayim to sacrifice his beloved son Ismayil. Yvrayim resigned himself to Allah and intended to fulfill the order of the God. However, the Supreme God, who made sure of the strength of the faith of Yvrayim, replaced his son with a ram at the last moment.
Since that time, all the adherents of the Muslim faith, sacrificing an animal, follow the example of the prophet Yvrayim, show love and obedience to the will of the Supreme God.
Every Muslim, who is not burdened with debts and is able to perform this rite, should sacrifice an animal in the days of Kurban Bayramy, cook food at home from its meat and feed as many people as possible - relatives, neighbors, acquaintances, etc.
Thus, everyone who comes into the house does so with the wish "Gurbanlygyňyz kabul bolsun!" The more people, the more grace.
However, the grace is got not only to the one who sacrifices, but also the one who came to taste the dish, prepared from the meat of the sacrificial animal. It is better for the Muslims to visit as many homes as possible.
During this holiday people all over the country hospitably accept anyone who crosses the threshold of his house, and they themselves go on a visit.
On top of all, in honor of the ancient holiday, which came to us from distant ancestors, cultural events are organized in recreation places. It is especially fun near the high-mounted swings, installed for this occasion, on which both adults and children ride with great pleasure.
Folk wisdom says that riding on a swing during Kurban Bayramy holiday removes sins.
