Elections to the Mejlis, the Halk Maslahaty and the Gengesh members on March 25 set attendance record at the beginning of the day already. Since the very morning, people have been actively demonstrating a civic position and electing deputies who will later become the voice of the people and of popular will as well as their representatives.
Elections are not only a milestone in the political life of the country. The social aspect is no less important.
Today's campaign brought together a variety of people. Someone came to the polling stations, and to someone ... the elections came to home!
On March 25, pensioners and people with disabilities could vote for candidates right at home.
“I always tried to go to the elections, but at the age of 81 years it is not somewhat easy issue, - the pensioner Albina Nikolaevna Trashkova shares with ORIENT. - And it is not the first time I've been helped to vote by volunteers from our polling station. They come home to retirees along with ballot paper as well as explain the procedure and answer questions. They are very polite and attentive always. It is a pity that they refuse the tea. Of course, I understand that they are at work.”
“Every citizen of Turkmenistan who has reached the age of majority has the right to participate in the political life of our country. We just help to realize this right,” said to ORIENT the organizer of the volunteer group at one of the polling stations.
In recent years, Turkmenistan has paid much attention to the social sphere. In accordance with the legislation of Turkmenistan, social protection of the population includes a system of material and social support for disabled persons, invalids, and families with children and others through payments in the form of pensions, state benefits and the provision of additional social benefits.
