The Great Silk Road attracts enthusiasts and romantics
The Great Silk Road is becoming one of the most popular routes for tourists from different countries. It attracts more and more travelers who prefer long trips on cars, motorcycles and bicycles, and even camels to fast flights.
After all, you can explore the local customs and culture and get acquainted with people of a different culture and learn from them a lot of interesting things about the country.
William Hsu, a student from the British city of Leamington, decided to make such a journey along the Great Silk Road. Two years ago Will, together with his school friend Charles Stevens cycled the 10000km Beijing-to-Tehran “Silk Road”. During the cycling marathon at the period of May – September 2016, they crossed over nine countries, including Turkmenistan, where they visited Darvaza gas crater, about which posted in the Instagram.
Now William plans to ride on bicycle from London to the Chinese city of Yiwu. Hsu, who is studying international development and economy, called his project “The New Silk Road”, and number like-minded persons joined him already.
The young people decided to raise awareness about new initiatives both to revive the Great Silk Road and to create a new trade route connecting the East and West, Europe and Asia. The first cycling ride from Beijing to Tehran involved William with history and cultures of the peoples of Asia. He admitted: “We learned about the new Silk Road and we were very interested in it. When I realized how important it, I thought that it would really worth seeing.”
He also added that on the first trip he was looking forward to returning home. Having returned back, he enjoyed for two weeks or a month, and then he wanted to go for a long trip again. By the way, the trip also had charitable purposes - after their Silk Road ride, the guys raised funds of 33 000 pounds sterling to support the school in Ghana.
The new journey of William will begin in London on June 1, and will pass through many countries before its final destination. The European part of the route will run through Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Belarus, Latvia, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria. Then, from Turkey, they will go to the Asian region.
Then the friends will ride through the Caucasus region, Georgia and Azerbaijan to reach Iran. Further the way lies to the north – to Turkmenistan, and then to the east via Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan to western China. William expects to reach the eastern part of China by the end of July and arrive in the city of Yiwu.
