Industrial enterprises of Turkmenistan reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere
The state of atmospheric air as one of the main components of the natural environment significantly affects the health of people. Effective mechanisms for clean development in the oil and gas sector, power generation, chemical industry, transport and other industries are being implemented in Turkmenistan to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere.
According to environmental experts, conducting monitoring of industrial enterprises in the country, emissions of harmful substances into the air from stationary sources of pollution in the first half of 2017 amounted to 171.3 thousand tons. This is 5.7% less than in the same period of 2016. Release limit of gaseous and liquid substances are for 164.7 thousand tons, or 96.1% of total emissions.
As reported to Orient in the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Environmental Protection and Land Resources, from January to June inspectors conducted 1,780 monitoring procedures to ensure that manufacturing enterprises comply with environmental regulations in their work. As a result, 716 cases of exceeding the maximum permissible level of emissions of harmful substances into the environment were detected.
6515 vehicles and railway locomotives were also inspected - 664 violations were registered in this sector. And of the 30 marine vessels checked - 11 had higher emissions than regulated. In the course of inspections over half a year more than 2 thousand violations of nature protection legislation were revealed, administrative fines were imposed for the harm caused to nature for a total of 378,000 manats, and almost all of this amount was recovered.
The inspections were also conducted in the reserves, nature-protection areas and subordinate territories of the regional directorates for nature protection, where the rules are even stricter. Here previous "warnings" had an effect, and punitive sanctions had to be applied much less.
